A Secreted Protein in the Wnt Signaling Pathway-R-Spondin3: A Mini-Review_Crimson Publishers

Secreted Protein in the Wnt Signaling Pathway-R-Spondin3: A Mini-Review by Qing Yang in Significances of Bioengineering & Biosciences: Crimson Publishers_American Journal of Bioscience and Bioengineering

R-spondins (Roof plate-specific Spondins, RSPOs) are secreted proteins, which act as activators of Wnt/β-catenin signaling and play roles in cell proliferation and differentiation, embryonic development, vasculogenesis as well as many human diseases. R-spondin3 (RSPO3) is a member of RSPOs family, containing two adjacent cysteine-rich furin-like domains, which act as an agonist in Wnt signaling. In this mini-review, we discuss and classify recent progress in understanding the protein functions of RSPO3 in embryonic development, vasculogenesis, and its role in cancers.

Cpg Methylation in G-Quadruplex and IMotif DNA Structures - Crimson Publishers

Abberant hypomethylation in DNA regions with noncanonical folding potential (ncDNA motifs) is believed to predetermine tumor development - presumably, by facilitating G-quadruplex (G4) and/or i-motif (IM) formation via altering nucleosome positioning (stable G4s induce subsequent genomic rearrangements). We questioned whether CpG methylation per se affects the dsDNA-ncDNA equilibrium. Thermodynamic studies of genomic and model oligonucleotides with methylated CpG sites at different positions are reported. The genomic oligonucleotides analyzed in this work are DNA fragments with reportedly different methylation statuses in colorectal cancer and normal cells. Free energies of duplex, ncDNA formation from single strands were calculated based on melting curve analyses. Polyethylenglycole was used to imitate crowding effect. Our results suggest that CpG methylation may alter the energetic barrier for dsDNA-IM transitions.

Noncoding RNA Modulation for Cardiovascular Therapeutics - Crimson Publishers

Cardiovascular diseasesare multifactorial diseases that involve alteration of multiple genes and subsequent phenotypic changes. Non-coding RNAs regulate gene expression, affecting many physiological and pathophysiological processes in humans. Accumulating evidence indicates that noncoding RNA, such as microRNAs, expression profile changes can lead to cardiovascular diseases. This article reviews the current findings regarding the roles of noncoding RNAs in cardiovascular diseases, and strategy to modulate them for therapeutics.

The Risk Level of Viet Nam Listed Medical and Human Resource Company Groups After the Global Crisis 2009-2011_American Journal of Bioscience and Bioengineering_Crimson Publishers

The Risk Level of Viet Nam Listed Medical and Human Resource Company Groups After the Global Crisis 2009-2011 by Dinh Tran Ngoc Huy* in Significances of Bioengineering & Biosciences

This paperwork gives some quantitative results based on evaluating the market risk of the listed firms in the Viet nam medical and human resource industry, esp. after the financial crisis 2009-2011. First, by using quantitative and analytical methods to estimate asset and equity beta of total 45 listed companies in Viet Nam medical and human resource industry with a proper traditional model, we found out that the beta values, in general, for many institutions are acceptable. Second, we recognized that the risk level, measured by equity and asset beta mean, decreases when using leverage (asset beta mean value of 0,316 decreasing from equity beta mean of 0,528). Third, by changing leverage in 3 scenarios, we recognized the dispersion of risk level, measured by equity beta var of 0,711, in the medicine industry is the highest (but acceptable), compared to the rest 2 industries. Finally, this paper provides some outcomes that could provide companies and government more evidence in establishing their policies in governance.
