Is Magic a Serious Research Topic? Reflexions on Some French Students’ Remarks about Magic in Psychology_Crimson Publishers

Is Magic a Serious Research Topic? Reflexions on Some French Students’ Remarks about Magic in Psychology by Pascal Morchain in Psychology and Psychotherapy: Research Study: Crimson Publishers_Journal of Psychology and Psychotherapy

This paper investigates the reasons for which some students in psychology curriculum seem to be not interested in the theme of magic as a research topic. Contextual factors are evoked, but this apparent disinterest is also interpreted in terms of representations of psychology, representations of magic, historical factors, and in terms of social value of the topic. Is magic a serious research topic? This question seems a bit weird. Obviously, in psychology show magic is a very serious topic. It deals with psychological processes, and with social interactions. In the late 19th century and early 20th century, famous psychologists as Binet [1,2]; Jastrow [3]; Triplett [4] use magical performances to understand psychological functioning. In 1999 Lamont & Wiseman [5] published Magic in theory, a theoretical book analysing the art of magic. Between 1887 and 1999, only 12 empirical articles about perception of magic in adults were published; they were 55 between 2000 and 2016 [6]. Nowadays, this field is sometimes called “science of magic” [7,8] or, most specifically, “neuromagic” [9]. In psychology, magic can be studied as any other object, or can be a mean to study psychological processes [10].

Anxiety and Fear in Childhood Clinical and Critical Issues_Crimson Publishers

Anxiety and Fear in Childhood Clinical and Critical Issues by Mohamad Q Abdullah in Psychology and Psychotherapy: Research Study

Anxiety in childhood is problematic in many arenas. Social anxiety, one thought of as simply “shyness”, does not more than cause a child to have difficulty with peer relations. When anxiety becomes overwhelming, a child will naturally avoid anxietyproducing stimulus. Hence, school refusal may begin. Children with anxiety are often preoccupied with worries about their success in activities and their ability to obtain the approval of others. These children may have persistent thoughts of self-doubt that they are unable control, and they constantly criticize themselves. Children may be preoccupied being on time to events and insist on doing a task “perfectly”. In contrast to the ordinary, occasional worries or fear experienced in childhood, generalized anxiety, persist for at least six months and affects children throughout the day home, at school and with friends.
Anxiety defines a as “an emotion characterized by feelings of tension, worried thoughts and physical changes like increased blood pressure.” It is important to know the difference between normal feelings of anxiety and an anxiety disorder that requires psychotherapy.

Late Spontaneous Posterior Dislocation of Intraocular Lens (IOL) - Case Report_Crimson Publishers

Cataract surgeries have undergone a great evolution over a period of time. This evolution helped in reducing the overall rate of spontaneous dislocation of Intra Ocular Lens (IOL) and provide a standard management for cataracts. Until in recent times, cases have been reported with spontaneous dislocation of IOL. This spontaneous dislocation of the intra ocular lens (IOL) with intact capsular bag can be typically seen in conditions resulting from zonular insufficiency and zonulysis [1]. This has usually been associated with conditions like, posterior capsular rent, post ND: YAG laser, trauma, pseudo exfoliation, myopia and other risk factors [2-5]. Although, IOL dislocation can occasionally occur in a spontaneous manner without any predisposing factors [5-10].
The following is a rare case of late spontaneous posterior dislocation of IOL in the vitreous chamber without any predisposing factors and its management.

Understanding Differential Item Functioning and Item bias In Psychological Instruments_ Crimson Publishers

Understanding Differential Item Functioning and Item bias In Psychological Instruments by Insu Paek in Psychology and Psychotherapy: Research Study

For a psychological test or instrument to function properly as intended, items in the test should measure respondents’ performance fairly across different groups of respondents such as male and female. In psychometric literature, the concept of differential item functioning (DIF) has been introduced to address the differential group performance on an item when the groups are equated at the same level of ability or latent trait status. This article introduces the concept of DIF while making a clear distinction of DIF from item bias and simple group performance difference since the civil rights error of the 1960’s in the United States, inequity has become a critical social issue. The area of educational and psychological testing is no exception. The use of testing as a sorting mechanism [1] has brought equity concerns to many people, specifically the testing enterprise.

Emotional Factor in the Etiology & Pathogeny of Cancer- Crimson Publishers

Emotional Factor in the Etiology & Pathogeny of Cancer  by
José R Ponce
in Psychology and Psychotherapy: Research Study

The results of a literature review about the relationship of emotional stress, in its different manifestations, with cancer disease are exposed. Since Galen (129-216 BC), in his book De Tumoribus noted that “melancholic” women were more prone to cancer than others, has been wondering about what is true in those suspicions. Especially that the clinical practice of many specialists points towards a close relationship between this disease and stress derived states, such as chronic depression for example. The cancer is chronic and still unknown in its cause. It consists in the atrophied and progressive growth of the cells in any part of the body, to create a tumor, or to circulate through body fluids such as blood or lymph. Such growth can metastasize to distant sites and could lead to death. Everything indicates up to know that its etiology is really multifactorial, where the toxic-environmental and the genetic-hereditary factor can be pointed out. However, it has been demonstrated how socio-environmental events imprint genetic mutation, and are coadjutant to the neoplastic tissue, being found within these factors to emotional stress. This state is related to cancer in several ways: One, causing genetic mutation, promoting growth of neoplastic tissue. In second place, reduces the defensive capacity of the immune system to against cancer. Third, through depression modifies physiological functions that favor the disease.
