Contribution of Elecromyographic Examination to Neuro-Occlusal Rehabilitation_ Crimson Publishers

Contribution of Elecromyographic Examination to Neuro-Occlusal Rehabilitation by Amel Belkhiri* in Orthoplastic Surgery & Orthopedic Care International Journal_ Orthopedic Care International Journal

Aim
To illustrate the importance of registering a patient’s ID particularly in specimens submitted to the Laboratory for investigations of blood transfusion. Mix-up of patients’ identification remain the commonest factor in producing erroneous reports or giving wrong blood products with potential serious ramifications. We are documenting 3 cases in which this mistake happened despite robust measures in the clinical settings and upon receiving the specimen in the Laboratory with variable consequences.

Case 1
Patient A presented with abdominal pain and was diagnosed with cholelithiasis. A laparoscopic cholecystectomy was planned. Upon registration the receptionist typed the unit number of the patient but with one different digit which resulted in producing labels of a different patient’s name and details. These were not checked and were filed with the notes. At operation the sticky label was peeled off from the notes and put on the specimen and was submitted to the Laboratory. At the Laboratory registration everything seemed fine and a histology report was produced confirming chronic cholecystitis associated with cholelithiasis. A few weeks later the pathologist received a letter from the clinician indicating that he did not perform this procedure on that patient, but he did the surgery on a different patient on the same day. The pathologist reported this as a clinical incident and asked for a formal letter from the surgeon outlining the details of the mistake, registering the incident and taking measures to identify and resolve the problem with further checking in the specimen to stop this incident from happening again.

Case 2
A young patient and her mother visited an outpatient clinic in a private hospital for a routine cervical smear for the daughter. A cervical smear was performed by the gynaecologist and the specimen was submitted for the cytology department for assessment. During screening and at the time of reporting the consultant cytopathologist noted that this patient had a history of a hysterectomy in the past which is documented in our records. The age of the patient was also noted which was 65 years old, but the smear showed no evidence of atrophy compatible with a young patient. Upon calling the gynecologist it was discovered that the sticky label on the request form was showing the mother’s details and not those of the daughter. It transpired that both the mother and the daughter had exactly the same first and surnames producing the confusion and mix-up at the time of registration. The gynecologist confirmed that he performed the procedure on the daughter and not on the mother. It is only by the robust procedure in the cytology department where previous records of each patient should be checked before issuing a new report helped to identify the problem. Again the gynecologist sent a letter documenting the incident and confirming the correct patient details and a correct cytology report was issued.

Contribution of Elecromyographic Examination to Neuro-Occlusal Rehabilitation_ Crimson Publishers

Contribution of Elecromyographic Examination to Neuro-Occlusal Rehabilitation by Amel Belkhiri* in Open Access Research in Anatomy_ Journal of Anatomy

Abstract
For Pedro Planas, the indirect tracks allow, in addition to the treatment of certain malocclusions, to release laterality movements and thus increase the activity of the masticatory muscles. The objective of this work will be to observe the effect of the Planas device on the activity of the masseter and temporal anterior, on each side, during right and left lateral movements. An electromyogram is used to assess the bioelectrical activity of these muscles with and without tracks in place.

Introduction
The chewing function participates fully in the development of maxillary only under the condition that it is done in right-left alternative laterality. Studies have shown that patients with malocclusions tend to have pathological chewing. Pedro Planas proposes its indirect tracks which allow in addition to the treatment of certain malocclusions to release the movements of laterality and thus increase the activity of the masticatory muscles. Although this movement of laterality is not functional in itself, it is however the one that best imitates the functional masticatory situation: it is the movement that the clinician must examine to study the patient’s chewing. The aim of this work is to observe the effect of the Planas device on the activity of the anterior masseters and temporals, on each side, during right and left lateral movements. An electromyogram was used to assess the bioelectrical activity of these muscles

Protein Characteristic for New Beginners_ Crimson Publishers

Protein Characteristic for New Beginners by Lay-Harn Gam* in Journal of Biotechnology & Bioresearch_ Journal of Biotechnology

Abstract

One of the branches of biotechnology is proteomics. It is an interesting field as proteins, unlike DNA which made up of combination of 4 nucleotides, is made up of combination of 22 amino acids, where the sequence of the amino acids gives uniqueness to each protein. In addition, the structure of the protein such as primary, secondary, tertiary and the folding of protein into quaternary making the protein different although they may have similar amino acid sequence. Furthermore, a functional protein may be consisting of more than one polypeptide. Each of the amino acid has different characteristic therefore the combination of the amino acids making protein to have different degrees of polarity. In addition, the post translation modification of protein, such as glycosylation, lipid components and metal ions making the protein to function differently according to their activity. All this made handling of protein difficult and if one is not careful, it may cause the problem in reproducibility of protein based experimental work.

In the field of proteomics bioanalysis, solubility of protein is upmost important as one can only analyze the protein when it is solubilized. Increase surface area will result in high yield of protein extract, this can be done by homogenizing the protein source sample (tissue, cell and etc.). In order to reduce the complex protein mixture, one can extract protein into two mixtures, name aqueous soluble mixture and membrane bound protein mixture. Aqueous soluble proteins can be extracted using buffer solution, However, in order to solubilize hydrophobic proteins, which are normally membrane bound proteins, combination of different reagents can be used.

Recurrence of Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM) Treated in a Radiotherapy Institution in Chile_ Crimson Publishers

Recurrence of Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM) Treated in a Radiotherapy Institution in Chile by Oñoro Guzmán L* in Advancements in Case Studies_ Journal of Case Studies

Abstract

Clinical case: 30-year-old female patient with Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) IDH (-) MGMT (-) TERT mut, 1p19q, referred in 2018 to the radio oncology service of the National Cancer Institute of Santiago de Chile to complement treatment after surgery macroscopically complete, under the standard schedule of radio-chemotherapy [1]. During the clinical and imaging follow-up after the primary treatment, two recurrences were evidenced in the left parietal occipital region. This evolution is expected in a tumor that tends to recur in 75 to 80% of cases during follow-up, associated with a poor prognosis. Our patient is treated with systemic therapy, vigilant surgery, and fractionated stereotactic radiosurgery (F-SRS) with excellent tolerance and satisfactory evolution.

Conclusion: This case shows the benefit of multidisciplinary treatments for tumors with high aggressiveness, unfavorable prognosis and that tend to recur like GBM. The evaluation of prognostic factors such as age, Karnofsky (KPS), type of surgery and molecular profile help us to offer additional treatments that prolong global survival and improve quality of life in the event of recurrence, which includes irradiation with fractionated stereotactic radiosurgery. AS a valid rescue option in patients with recurrent or residual malignant gliomas.

South Africa under Apartheid and the Role of the UN_ Crimson Publishers

South Africa under Apartheid and the Role of the UN by Saba Kanwal* in COJ Reviews & Research_ Research and Reviews International Journals

Abstract

Being an international organization, the United Nations has played an outstanding role in facilitating cooperation in international law, international security, economic development, social progress, human rights and maintenance of world peace. The pursuit of human rights has been remained a focus point in the objectives of the UN. The atrocities of the World War II and genocide, highlighted the need that the new organization must work to prevent any similar tragedies, which would be expected in the future, So on the basis of early objectives, the UN has created legal framework for considering and acting on complaints about human rights violations. The UN has succeeded to promote peace as well as to ensure human rights at global level. The UN ensuring human rights and peace through a special mechanism, peace-keeping missions and forces, state to state contact and through its observers. The apartheid in South Africa is one of the most painful examples of the human rights violation in which majority of black inhabitants were curtailed extremely based on racial segregation. The apartheid was developed after World War II by the Afrikaner-dominated National Party, and the UN stimulated this issue immediately at its first gathering in 1946, placing South Africa on the agenda. The UN successfully resolved the issue of human rights violations in South Africa, but ultimately it take very long time to eradicate apartheid from South Africa and after forty years, South Africa was able to conduct fare and free elections with cooperation of the UN and other international communities.

Harmful Effects of Soft Drinks_ Crimson Publishers

Harmful Effects of Soft Drinks by Romani I* in Advancements in Bioequivalence & Bioavailability_ Bioequivalence And Bioavailability International Journal

Abstract

Soft drink is the most consumable drinks worldwide although of their serious impact on human health, it affects many body systems such as locomotor system, gastrointestinal system, circulatory, central nervous and even reproductive system, simply it affects all the body structures. Diabetes, heart diseases, bones and teeth disorders are frequently induced due to excessive consumption of soft drinks particularly among children and aged persons.

Diseases mentioned above induce a negative impact on the overall economy of countries chiefly least developing countries which require import medications from other countries so they expense much of hard currency on things, that may be avoidable by applying their local resources and introduce natural fruits as juices to their local citizen in a civilized way. Extensive and attractive advertisements of soft drinks companies and inadequate awareness toward its hazardous effects on community health and the national economy encourage more investors to invest their money in soft drinks factories, so the snow ball is being larger than before and hits more and more people and that will draw a black picture to the health status of those people whom stay under the rains of soft drinks.

Renal and heart diseases and dental problems represent a real health problem facing more than 70% of Sudanese people at differ ent age groups and due to complexity of that diseases which require well established hospitals with well-equipped laboratories and modern radiological diagnostic method s which is usually not in all districts of the country and due to the low income of most citizen which prevent them to attain the best diagnostic and therapeutic methods.

Collaboration between policy makers, health practitioners and media will save the soul of a lot of children, young and elder Sudanese from being dead by excessive drinking those harmful slow killer drinks. Nowadays rising of food and drinks prices in Sudan, provide compulsory and passive protection from the harmful effects of soft drinks. Urban people are mostly affected with that bad effects in comparison to the rural people whom usually depend on their local natural drinks and they are enjoy with healthy simple life.

Sudanese local natural local drinks are very healthy, cheap and easy to obtain in comparison to soft drinks which are expensive and harmful. Tabaldi is one of the most common natural drinks especially in the west of Sudan and it protect the circulatory system by controlling the level of cholesterol so it prevent heart diseases which are rarely seen among people in the western of Sudan in comparison to other areas in the country. Karkadi is another Sudanese natural drink which plays an important role in controlling of blood pressure Figure 1

Rehabilitation in Connective Tissue Diseases_ Crimson Publishers

Rehabilitation in Connective Tissue Diseases by Romani I* in Examines in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation: Open Access_ Journal of Rehabilitation Medicine

Abstract

Connective Tissue Disease (CTD) is a heterogeneous group of chronic inflammatory conditions characterized by involvement of conjunctive tissue and a common autoimmune signature. These diseases include systemic lupus erythematosus, polymyositis, dermatomyositis, systemic sclerosis, Sjogren’s syndrome, mixed CTDs, and undifferentiated CTDs. Cutaneous, articular, muscular, pulmonary and cardiovascular manifestations are among the most frequent during these diseases and often lead to a functional and physical disability that sometimes severely affects the quality of life of these patients. Rehabilitation and physical therapy play a crucial role in the management of patients with CTDs but despite their proven benefits, they are often neglected and represent a challenge for clinicians. This overview focuses on the rehabilitation of cutaneous, musculoskeletal and cardio-pulmonary involvement of CTDs.

Vagally Mediated Bradycardia and Increased Vagal Tone: Interest of Cardiovascular Autonomic Reflexes Testing_ Crimson Publishers

Vagally Mediated Bradycardia and Increased Vagal Tone: Interest of Cardiovascular Autonomic Reflexes Testing by Romani I* in Open Journal of Cardiology & Heart Diseases_ journal of cardiology & heart diseases

Abstract

Introduction: The autonomic nervous system (ANS) controls all body functions. Dysregulation of this system may be responsible of bradycardia. The main objective of our study is to describe the autonomic profile of patients with bradycardia and to determine, through testing cardiovascular autonomic reflexes its involvement in the pathogenesis of idiopathic symptomatic bradycardia.

Material and methods: This are a retrospective study including 72 patients with bradycardia. The study was conducted in the ANS unit of the cardiology department in Mohamed VI hospital of Marrakech. All patients had clinical examination, electrocardiogram, biological exam and autonomic nervous system tests.

Results: The average age of the patients was 44 years old with a female predominance. The mean heart rate was 50bpm. Patients had polymorphic functional symptoms. The autonomic profile of patients with bradycardia revealed a significant predominance of vagal hyperactivity, which is present in 83.3% of patients. Increased vagal tone was associated with a peripheral sympathetic alpha deficiency in 30,5% of the cases, a peripheral sympathetic beta deficiency in 25% and even a peripheral sympathetic beta hyperactivity in 54,1% of patients. The main autonomic syndromes found were: postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS) in 34,7% of patients, orthostatic hypotension in 25% of the cases, vasovagal syncope in 8,3%, and the baro-receptor abnormality in 12,5% of the patients. The treatment, depending on the autonomic abnormality showed an improvement in the functional state of the patients.

Conclusion: Autonomic profile study helps to explain the causes of symptoms described by the patients with bradycardia whose clinical and conventional paraclinical examinations are normal.

Online Health Searching: A Perspective from South East Asia_ Crimson Publishers

Online Health Searching: A Perspective from South East Asia by Anushia Inthiran* in Techniques in Neurosurgery & Neurology_ Journal of Neurosurgery

Abstract
Searching for online health information is an activity conducted by people from all walks of life. Performing a health search is not a trivial task. A searcher could be overwhelmed by the sheer amount of information available and the need to understand technical and complex details; more so when the search is performed by a layperson. However, the complexity and technicality of performing an online health search does not discourage health consumers from performing a health search on the Internet. Research studies from developed countries provide information on the type of person who performs the search, sources used, type of search performed, and devices used to perform the search. However, similar information from South East Asia is limited. There are many reasons for this, among them being the lack of medical knowledge and experience and low levels of health literacy in comparison to health consumers in the developed world. Nevertheless, there is some information about online health information searching from South East Asia. In recent years, researchers have started shedding light on the online health information searching behaviour of health consumers from South East Asia. Often, the purpose of these studies is to explore, describe and compare online health searching behaviour of health consumers in developing countries and in developed countries. These research studies conducted in South East Asia contribute to literature within this field and has made the online health information searching scene rich. The aim of this opinion piece is to describe what is known about the online health information searching behaviour within the South East Asian region and to postulate direction of online health searching within this region. South East Asian online health consumers indicate experiencing positive and negative search experience. In some cases, post search outcomes influenced the search experience. Results of a study indicate information overload as the main negative concern. Other issues include pages that contained too much information, pages were not properly structured and presence of too many links on the page. This contributed to the search process being cumbersome [1]. Results also indicate that the search process influenced participants emotionally and resulted in them limiting the search activity from proceeding further. As a coping mechanism some participants question the comments and arguments presented on the site whilst other ignored any serious implications presented on the page

Preparation of Nanostructured Catalysts by Grafting Metal Alkoxides on the Surface of Oxides Supports and their Performances in Some Reactions of Industrial Interest_ Crimson Publishers

Preparation of Nanostructured Catalysts by Grafting Metal Alkoxides on the Surface of Oxides Supports and their Performances in Some Reactions of Industrial Interest by E Santacesaria* in Progress in Petrochemical Science_ International Journal of Petrochemical Science

Abstract

Metal alkoxides are nowadays largely employed for preparing ceramic materials, for thin coating films and for supports and catalysts preparation using in the different cases the solgel technique or the chemical vapour deposition [1]. Although very promising, less popular is the employment of metal alkoxides for preparing supports and catalysts by using the grafting technique. This technique can usefully be used for deeply changing the acid-base and/or the redox properties of the surface of an oxide rich of hydroxyls. As the catalytic properties depends almost exclusively on the surface properties of the solid used as catalyst, modifying opportunely the surface by contacting it with reactive substances like the metal alkoxides can give surprising results in terms of activity and selectivity in different reactions. In particular, the properties of the new surfaces obtained by reacting the superficial hydroxyls with a metal alkoxide, after a stabilizing treatment of hydrolysis and calcinations, are quite different from the original surface. A systematic work has been made on the subject by our research group in the past and a review of the most significant obtained results is reported in this paper.
