The Outcome of Hook Plate for Lateral Third Clavicle Fractures_ Crimson Publishers

The Outcome of Hook Plate for Lateral Third Clavicle Fractures by Ahmad I*, Ali A, Khan Z, Kashif S, Saeed M, Ullah S, and Arif M in
Orthopedic Research Online Journal_ Orthopedic Research journal

Abstract

Objectives: The objective of this study was to assess the outcome of displaced lateral third clavicle fractures which were fixed using hook plates.

Introduction: The lateral third clavicle fractures in adults are unstable fractures requiring operative treatment and are prone to non-union and delayed union. The clavicle hook plate is one of the many operating techniques that can achieve a high rate of union and relatively low rate of complications for this type of fracture, as evident from its extensive use in the last decade or so. Literature suggests good results with many studies reporting union rates of up to 100%. However, the technique is not without its fair share of controversies regarding complications like shoulder impingement, resulting in long term shoulder pain and subacromial osteolysis. We aim to assess the outcome of the patients treated with hook plate and determine whether this technique has good outcome.

Methods: 22 patients, who were previously operated on at two health-care centres of Peshawar from April 2016 to March 2019 for displaced fractures of the lateral third of the clavicle by using hook plate technique, were assessed retrospectively from case records and radiographs and clinical examinations of patients, to determine their functional and radiologicaloutcome. The follow-up duration ranged from six months to three years.

Result: The average age was 31.6 years with range of 18 to 53 years. Among these 17 were males and 5 females. All the fractures united successfully making the union rate 100%. The implant was removed from 6 of the cases, with only 3 of them due to complications. One of them had a periprosthetic fracture while the other 2 experienced persistent pain and limitation of abduction. Only 37% of the patients had long-lasting pain and 16% complained of stiffness with all of them returning to their work/sports successfully. The functional outcome according to constant score was above 80 in 90% cases.

Conclusion: Surgical fixation of lateral-third clavicle fractures with a hook plate is an effective technique resulting in excellent rate of union and relatively good functional outcome.

Vitamin E and Fertility in the Poultry Birds; Deficiency of Vitamin E and its Hazardous Effects_ Crimson Publishers

Vitamin E and Fertility in the Poultry Birds; Deficiency of Vitamin E and its Hazardous Effects by Aamir Nawab*, Shuyan Tang, Wenchao Liu, Jiang Wu, Fahar Ibtisham, Yi Zhao, Kai Kang, Chenyu Sun, Guanghui Li*, Mei Xiao and Lilong An* in Approaches in Poultry, Dairy & Veterinary Sciences_ The Journal of Poultry Science

Abstract

Vitamin E plays a significant role in growth, tissue integrity, reproduction, nervous system and disease resistance. Fertility plays a vital role in human, animals and avian species. But, several factor such as climatic variation, diet, minerals, and vitamins can affect fertility. Vitamin E acts as an antioxidant and increases disease resistance against infectious agents in animals which, in response, increases fertility in animals and poultry birds. Vitamin E performs an excellent role in birds including egg production, egg fertility, hatchability, sperm motility, conception rate, and postnatal growth. Its main function is to inhibit the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in the cells and tissues. In addition, Vitamin E provides biological stability to spermatozoal plasma membranes in male birds and maintains the egg quality in female birds by preventing the generation of ROS. Numerous studies have described that vitamin E deficiency reduced fertility in humans and avian species. However, very less data is available on vitamin E supplementation and its deficiency on the fertility of poultry birds. Therefore, this paper aim was to explore the effects of the supplementation of vitamin E on the fertility of poultry birds in order to understand the beneficial role of vitamin E in the maintenance of sperm and egg qualities. This review may provide important scientific information to better understand the mechanism of vitamin E and its possible effects on fertility functions in the poultry species.

Keywords:
Vitamin E; Poultry; Oxidative stress; Fertility; Antioxidant

Engineering Essentials for Medical Robotics_ Crimson Publishers

Engineering Essentials for Medical Robotics by Sadique Shaikh* in Research in Medical & Engineering Sciences_ Medical training

Medical Robotics

Medical Robotics includes a number of devices used for surgery, medical training, rehabilitation therapy, prosthetics, and assisting people with disabilities.

Bionic
Bionicsis a common term for bio-inspired information technology, typically including three types of systems, namely:

Bio-morphic (eg neuromorphic) and bio-inspired electronic/optical devices, Autonomous artificial sensor-processor-activator prostheses and various devices built into the human body, and Living-artificial interactive symbioses, e.g. braincontrolled devices or robots. In spite of some restrictive use of the term ‘bionics’ in popular culture, as well as the unfulfilled promises in the fields of neural networks, artificial intelligence, soft computing and other ‘oversold’ areas, it was agreed that the name bionicsas defined above is the right one for the emergent technology also described as bio-inspired information technology (some people are suggesting info-bionics). There are numerous programs at several funding agencies which are supporting parts of this field under various other names

Chimera States - A Brief Introduction_ Crimson Publishers

Chimera States - A Brief Introduction by Rajarshi Middya and A Roy Chowdhury* in Research & Development in Material Science_ Biological science

The plethora of systems considered during the study of coupling between entities exhibiting nonlinear behaviour has led to the emergence of a new field of study encompassing biological science and mathematics, where the connectivity between neurones proves to be a worthwhile quest. But this is not restricted only to the above mentioned domains. In this respect, the one thing that interests the scientific community at large is the random presence of synchrony and its absence in a cluster of nonlinear systems. Any large scale complex network is capable of exhibiting this phenomenon. First observed by Kuramoto et al. [1-3] the phenomena mentioned here has got a very interesting name dating back to the time of Homer. Chimera - a three headed fire-breathing monster having the head of a lion, the body of a goat and the tail of a serpent - is the name given to this phenomenon.

In a population of interconnected nonlinear systems identical in nature, the occurrence of chimera states can be indicated by simultaneous existence of coherent and incoherent states amongst different clusters of the population. The coherent oscillators have their phase locked and the incoherent ones are desynchronised amongst each other. The basic idea behind it was that, since the behaviour of the network as a whole cannot be termed as synchronous between its elements and neither can be termed as asynchronous, the confusion created is similar to that of a chimera as one cannot exactly classify the chimera as a particular animal. It should be kept in mind that similar phenomenon can be observed in the case of a population consisting of non-identical systems. But there as the asynchronous nature is attributed to the in homogeneity of the network, it cannot be termed as chimera. An example of the existence of chimera state in a population of similar nodes is shown in Figure 1.

This figure gives a superficial idea about how the chimera state might look like in a neural network consisting of about eight hundred nodes. The abcissa in Figure 1a is the node index and the ordinate is the one of the state variables. As can be seen, between the nodes three hundred and four hundred there is a continuum of the state variable thus indicating that the nodes are in sync with each other. This is further bolstered by the continuous line in Figure 1 showing that their phases are locked. Now that we have given a brief glimpse of what chimera states might look like in a homogeneous population of nonlinear oscillators, we are ready to point towards certain field of research where this concept has proven its use. This is given the next section.

Approach to the valley of Atlixco, Puebla and its sustainability_ Crimson Publishers

Approach to the valley of Atlixco, Puebla and its sustainability by Andrés Armando Sánchez Hernández*, Margarita Teutli León and Primitive Lezama Salazar in Environmental Analysis & Ecology Studies_ Journal of Environmental Sciences

This valley or region has been considered a magnificent climate par excellence and has a number of aspects that are related to the agro-industrial production dedicated to the production of fruits, vegetables and infinity of flowers. It has been considered with the "best climate in the world", it has also been considered, at the municipal head, as "Atlixco de las flores", and related to cultural heritage, it has been protected as an area of historical monuments to a surface of the city of Atlixco of 0.59km2, a very small portion of the city, although with the extension of the concept of heritage it can be considered another heritage of different periods and typological conditions. To this is added the patrimonial value of the whole, seen as a cultural landscape, and is even inseparable to the idea of a mixed site for its natural and cultural values.

Likewise, it can be learned from this review that the heritage conditions of the region are associated with the natural and cultural. Where associated values are found, as well as problems to solve. In this context, this essay continues with the idea and methodology of complexity to know the aspects of greater incidence and relation with the idea of sustainability that start from the slogan: "That current generations use natural and cultural resources without compromising future generations". Starting from its impact on the economy, the environment, identity-culture. In this sense, the idea of complexity is added where everything is interrelated and it is clear that the settlements had to do with the idea of adaptation and use to the environment. On the other hand, the idea that the natural and cultural is now seen as heritage is analyzed. Idea of the value and sui generis of a place that gives identity, permanence and is in symbiosis of its inhabitants.

In this sense, the objective of this document is to outline the conditions of the valley-region and the points of greatest influence that require attention to be able to focus a series of actions for a sustainability in favor of ecology- environment, economic conditions, the identity and the cultural, as well as the conditions of an administration of the cultural and natural resources for the present and future generations.

Physical Exercise Practiced by Adolescents Students by Zarallo GR, Chamorro MZC*, Luque AG and Prado MS in COJ Nursing & Healthcare: Crimson Publishers_ Medical Rehabilitation

Introduction: Physical inactivity or sedentary lifestyle is the fourth risk factor for global mortality and one of the main risk factors for chronic noncommunicable diseases. In Europe and worldwide, a significant proportion of young people and adults have sedentary or low physical activity habits.

Objective: To explore the prevalence, frequency and type of physical exercise practiced by adolescent students in Extremadura (Spain) between 14 and 21 years of age, as well as the perceived barriers to not performing physical exercise.

Methods: Descriptive cross-sectional study. The sample was formed by public high school and university students from Extremadura in Cáceres, from 14 to 21 years old. On May of 2018, sociodemographic and questions related to practice of physical exercise data were collected. Chi square was used for the qualitative variable, in the bivariate analysis.

Result: 56 adolescent students have participated. 74.1% of students indicate that they practice physical exercise normally. Statistically significant differences were detected between gender and exercise practice (p<0.05). 24.1% of the participants chose running, 12.1% walking, 17.2% go to gym to perform muscle exercises and 12.1% play football, followed by other sports in smaller proportion. Regarding if they have any impediment to perform physical exercise due to injury, illness or lack of time, 19% indicated it.

Conclusion: Although most adolescents practice physical exercise, with a frequency of at least two or three days a week and the most frequent exercises among adolescents are running, walking and going to the gym, it is necessary to continue promoting healthy lifestyle habits related to the practice of physical exercise

Lysophosphatidic Acid: A Key Player in Obesity-Crimson Publishers

Lysophosphatidic Acid: A Key Player in Obesity by Hina FB in Intervention in Obesity & Diabetes: Crimson Publishers-Diabetes and Obesity Impact Articles

In an obese individual, elevated levels of no esterified fatty acids, glycerol, hormones, cytokines, proinflammatory substances, and other substances have been observed. Adipokine, autotoxin (ATX) released by adipocytes exerts a paracrine control over adipogenesis via LPA production which in turn aggravates obesity and insulin resistance in affected individuals. Obesity and its associated disorders (glucose homeostasis and cardiovascular disease like atherosclerosis) show an upregulated expression of ATX- LPA, which makes it a druggable target to treat obesity. In this review we have highlighted the role of lysolipid, LPA and its receptors in obesity and associated anomalies.

Energy Producing and Consumption in Georgia_Crimson Publishers

Energy Producing and Consumption in Georgia by Demur Chomakhidze in Integrative Journal of Conference Proceedings

The paper investigates the energy balance of Georgia. To that end, the production and consumption of fuel and energy resources are analyzed for the 26-year period of independence of Georgia. The analysis is done by categories of energy resources and main sectors of industry. Data regarding the export and import of energy resources and level and dynamics of covering country’s consumption by local production is provided. The energy balance of Georgia suggests that in Georgia there are some achievements as challenges. Positively can be assessed the fact that during 2013-2017 years, aggregated energy balance of Georgia was carried out, while it was not possible for the fast 20 years. Another achievement can be seen, an increase of renewable energy resources in energy production structure [1]. It is shown that, traditionally, the energy balance of Georgia is in deep deficit. Moreover, energy intensity and electricity intensity of Gross domestic product (GDP) in Georgia is higher than in other countries. Not satisfying condition can be noted in consumption of energy within sectors, as in structure of production. The article provides improvements for reduction of balance deficit. The country imports almost all amount of oil and natural gas. Electricity balance is relatively stable. In the recent years, some amount of electivity is exported to the neighboring countries. Generally, the country satisfies only 30-35% of own energy consumption by local generation, and the rest amount of resources are imported from abroad [2]. The reason for deficit to some extent is irrational and wasteful consumption of energy resources. The article examines the organizational difficulties in drawing up energy balance of Georgia and statistical problems of recording of energy production and consumption at the initial stage of market economy [3].
